Hold My Soul
hold my soul in your hand for a moment
your hand will tremble
look into my eyes for just a moment
your voice will quiet
long shadows sleep in me
though the sun has already risen
and the noise of the street flows into the house
you search for answers
you ride a horse like a knight
without memory
toward the abyss
and you do not yet know
that this cliff is destined for you
as much as the green of the forest
as much as birdsong
as much as divine revelation
each day you look with astonished eyes
at strange moving images
at shallow beings
at the absence of darkness
it flows through you like a mountain stream
disappearing into the distance
and perhaps we will still be given
those dark caves with only one light
the one that flickers in the distance like a spark
and tells us softly
that whatever we know
